No Longer a Spectator Nation: RCMI (Jul-Aug 2009)

Senator Pamela Wallin graced a delightful evening with a full house of members and their daughters, granddaughters and goddaughters.

Col Hugh Stewart and Col Ted Taylor both had parties of ten which is probably a Guinness Book of Records statistic and also credit to some renowned charm school.

A wonderful speaker with such a wide range of knowledge and experience and able to present her theme wholly without visual aids, Senator Wallin's subject was "No Longer a Spectator Nation".

The knowledge gained by her four year experience as Consul General of Canada in New York enabled her to explain very clearly the need for close cooperation and understanding of how and why the United States works. She explained the impact that the events 9/11 has had on the psychology of the American people and their fixation on security issues, which impact, deservedly or not, on cross-border issues and many other aspects of Canada-US relations.
